TPR

I know it has been a few days, but once again, the absence of internet at our house is my very good reason for not blogging.

I thought today I could tell you a little bit about our language sessions, which we have 4 times a week for 2 hours.

One of the exercises that is supposed to help us learn this language is called TPR (Totally physical response). There is a whole complicated concept behind it, but what is basically boils down to for us right now is that we have objects, we point at them and ask "What is this?" or "What is the name for this?" and our very patient language helper answer over and over again, "This is a water jug."

Then, once we think we have memorized all the words that are "on the table", the language helper will ask us, "Where is the water jug?", "Where is the chair?"... We have even gotten so far to be able to follow when she said, "Put the water jug under the chair." (very helpful sentence, I know!)

While this sounds very tedious (and sometimes it IS), it actually works! After the language sessions, we of course have to review the words and we use the program "mental case" for that (like digital flash cards with lots of helpful extra skills), which we highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn a language.

Hm, yeah, that is pretty much what we do.
Sound boring?
Yeah, I know...but trust me, for excitement there are plenty of unfamiliar things happening all around us... all the time!
What is this? This is a "galon". What is this? This is a "galon". What is this? This is a "galon"

What is that? That is a "jalan". What is that? That is a "jalan". yeah, you get what I am saying
This is actually our little street, the orange fence on the right is ours.
